We are looking for a creative and self-motivated Café Manager to join our team at the Castle Climbing Centre. This role would suit someone looking to work in a creative and vibrant role, in a Café that is committed to sustainable ways of working and creating amazing Vegetarian food for our climbers!  

Hours: Full-time role at 37.5 hours per week.

Salary banding: £26,407.03 - £33,272.85 depending on skills and experience. 

About The Castle

The Castle offers a diverse and wide range of Climbing facilities to cater for all. Based in Stoke Newington, the Centre itself is a Grade II listed Victorian Water pumping station, with a Café, shop, outdoor boulders and community gardens. A friendly and enthusiastic team we are passionate in providing the highest quality facilities in a fun, motivated, and inclusive environment. Sustainability is an important part of the Centre’s vision and values and is integrated into every aspect of the business, especially within our Café, where we try to source a lot of our produce from the community gardens onsite.

The Role 

Reporting to the CEO you will be working with the Café and Kitchen Team to provide refreshments and food to our Climbers and visitors. The successful individual will be responsible for setting the vision for the Café and review our offer. We are at a turning point with the business and we want the Café to stand out. Quality, sustainability and a great customer experience are central to our success.

As Café Manager you will ensure the Café and Kitchen teams are providing a great service to our customers in food quality, sustainable food items and a variety of products. Along with the Kitchen team you will work closely with the Garden Team to ensure the Café is working sustainably and utilising its produce as much as possible.

The Manager will look for continual development and improvements to the Café service, making the Café a great environment for both its customers and its team. You will work with the Kitchen team closely to ensure that we are producing fun, tasty and accessible foods for our Climbers and ensure that the team is working to Food Safety Standards and Health and Safety protocol.

Job Description

The Person

The successful individual will be motivated and proactive in their way of working, with an interest in sustainable foods and service.  Ideally you should have a Level 3 in Food Hygiene, Health and Safety compliance and have experience of working within a catering, hospitality, or food service.  

The right candidate will have experience leading and motivating a team to work together, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all, that encourages collaboration.

You will be a great communicator and have experience of resolving conflict and complaints in a tactful and diplomatic way, dealing with verbal and written communications.

Candidates must have experience of:

  • PoS and stock control systems 
  • Back-end invoicing and ordering
  • Coffee/barista experience
  • Menu development
  • General kitchen/café Operations
  • Working within a catering environment in a Supervisory or Management role

We are interested in hearing from climbers but being a climber is not a requirement for this role.

As part of this role, you will need to work some evenings and weekends serving customers and running shifts.
