Image:

We are looking for two new people to join our team at the Castle Climbing Centre. Both roles are within our Front of House Team, which will mean working across three departments: Shop, Café and Reception. Upon application you will be assigned a home department (either Shop or Reception) and this will represent your reporting line within the Castle organisation, but your shifts will be spread across the all three of the Front of House departments. These roles would suit someone friendly and warm, with great customer service skills and a eye for detail. A passion for climbing and an understanding of our sustainable ethos is a must!

Hours: both roles are offered at 20 hours per week.

Salary banding: London Living Wage

In this Front of House role, you will be working in the Shop or Reception as your home department, but will be cross departmentally trained for all areas of Front of House, giving you variety and knowledge across all areas

What’s Life Like in the Front of House Department?

The Front of House roles at the Castle are varied and busy offering training and work across all three departments: Shop, Café and Reception.

As a Front of House team member, you will have a “home department”, however in addition to your “home department” you would also work across the other FOH areas to help support the teams demands.

This means you get variety and stability all at the same time!

On your shift you could be working in….

  • The Shop, ensuring you provide an amazing level of customer service and enthusiasm with your knowledge of climbing equipment, shoes and all other great products we have available for our climbing community.
  • Reception, ensuring our customers receive a very warm welcome. Providing information about the centre, ensuring the correct forms and paperwork are filled in, or offering information on our climbing facilities, memberships and more.
  • The Café, ensuring our community have great coffee and food available to fuel their climbs! Providing a high level of customer service and good knowledge of our sustainable produce and food products.

Duties include:

  • Provide customers with advice and facilitate the sale of climbing equipment
  • Assisting with climbing equipment hire such as harnesses and shoes
  • Facilitating the entry of our customers, in line with the Castles’ health and safety policies
  • Answering customer queries by phone, email and in person
  • Administration of our customer database and bookings systems
  • Providing excellent customer service to hungry climbers. This will include food and drink handling
  • Working with the Duty Managers and colleagues to ensure a safe and friendly working environment for our customers and staff
  • Collaborating with all Front of House departments

What we are looking for

You will be someone with a friendly attitude and experience in customer service. We will offer training for each department; however, your Home Department will be the Shop or Reception. We request that you specify which home department would be your preference on application. Candidates for either role must have a good working knowledge of all things climbing; on Reception, you'll be responsible for ensuring our visitors are aware of the risks and procedures of the Castle, and in the Shop you must be able to recommend the right gear, equipment, shoes…. We could go on! Some knowledge and experience in a café would also be an advantage but is not essential.

Applicants should also have a high level of computer literacy due to the systems used in reception. A high standard of written and spoken English is essential.

You will be a keen climber, enthusiastic about the Castle community and align with our values in particular our care and passion for the environment, climbing and others.

What we offer

  • Competitive rate of pay aligned with the London Living Wage
  • Use of Climbing facilities
  • Staff social and trips
  • Discount in the shop and café
  • Paid volunteer hours in our Garden
