As we are all aware, the cost of living has risen significantly for individuals and businesses alike in recent months. This has led us to make the difficult decision to increase some of memberships and our Pay Per Climb single visit prices.
 
These changes will not come into effect until October 1st, but we wanted to give you plenty of notice of the change.

Why have we made this decision?

You may know that our unique building requires a continuous maintenance and refurbishment program for which we have seen increases in the cost of buildings supplies and labour of around 20%. This programme ranges from essential repairs to the building’s structure (including repairs to the roof and brickwork in accordance with requirements from Historic England) as well as refurbishing large parts of The Castle to improve the comfort and enjoyment for our climbers this winter and beyond.
 
In addition to the essential works, we have introduced new infrastructure at reception to help create a quicker, slicker entry. We are continuing to manage numbers in the centre to avoid the extremely busy periods we experienced in the years before covid.
 
We are committed to offering you some of the best climbing in town and further to the essential works we are very excited to announce that we will be adding two new outdoor boulders in the next year!
 
At the heart of The Castle are our staff and earlier this year to help support and retain our excellent team we increased pay. However, as the months have progressed, we feel that this has not been enough and will be providing each of our employees a cost-of-living bonus this September to help ease the immediate burden of the current crisis.

What will the price increase look like? 

We know that a price increase is that last thing individuals need at this time. We have always tried to keep our prices towards middle of other local walls and are aware that this increase will take us towards the top end.
 
Despite this increase, The Castle still offers the largest and widest variety of multi discipline climbing in London and we are committed to continue to be able to provide this at a fair rate. We feel that at this time, this is the right decision to make to ensure that we can provide a better climbing environment, proceed with repairs and improvements in the centre and continue to support our staff.

 
Please note, Family memberships, concession and child single entries, and concession Bulk Buy prices remain unchanged.

When do the new prices take effect?

The price change will take effect on October 1st.

Standard single entry prices will be charged at the new rate from October 1st.
 
Monthly memberships will update automatically. If you currently have a monthly membership, your first payment due on or after 1st October will be charged at the new rate. If you wish to cancel your membership you can do so at any time before the payment is due via your Capitan account.

Annual members and Bulk Buy holders will be charged at the new price when renewed from October 1st.
 

Finally, we want to thank you for your continued support over the last few turbulent years. We appreciate that a price rise is never welcome, however we hope we have explained our reasons clearly and that you will continue to choose the Castle as your local climbing wall.
