We are looking for a kitchen assistant to join our Kitchen Team at the Castle.
 
Hours: 20-25 hours per week.
Salary banding: £11.95 hourly rate  
 

About the Castle Climbing Centre

The Castle offers a diverse and wide range of Climbing facilities to cater for all. Based in Stoke Newington, the Centre is a Grade II listed Victorian Water pumping station, with a Café, shop, outdoor boulders, and community gardens. A friendly and enthusiastic team, we are passionate about providing the highest quality facilities in a fun, motivated, and inclusive environment. Sustainability is an integral part of the Centre’s vision and values. It is integrated into every aspect of the business, especially within our Café, where we try to source a lot of our produce from the community gardens onsite.
 
The Castle Climbing Centre aims to always develop our team to learn other skills and because the Castle operates with a unified operation Front of House (FOH) team concept, the post-holder may also be trained to become part of the unified team, such as the shop and reception. There are always other opportunities within the centre if you are interested. 
 

The Role

Reporting to the Café Manager and working under supervision of the Head Chef you will be working in collaboration with the other Chef’s in the Kitchen and the Front-of-House Team. 
You will be an essential part to assist in always keeping the kitchen organised, clean and tidy. You will follow the Health, Food and Hygiene regulations and the Café and Castle procedures. You will perform all cleaning, washing, and preparation duties required in the kitchen and Front-of House when necessary. You will be the right-hand person in assisting the chefs with all tasks necessary to ensure that kitchen operations run smoothly.
 

About You

  • You are cooperative, courteous and possess the ability to maintain a pleasant disposition and sense of urgency. You are flexible, with the ability to multi-task in a highly demanding environment. You can communicate effectively with others, self-starter, reliable and can work independently.
  • You can lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 60 pounds (25kg) and place items on high and low shelves in storerooms and freezers. This is reduced to 5kg for loads being held at arm’s length or above shoulder height.
  • You can stand and walk during 6-to-8-hour shifts and is able to reach, bend, stoop, and wipe surfaces and cabinets. You can work in an environment subject to varying heat and noise levels.
  • You demonstrate positive adaptability and a proactive attitude and able to work well under pressure and as part of a team. You are punctual, prepared, and ready to work at the times agreed upon by you and the café Manager and Rota (Deputy), as well as attend to your designated breaks timely 
  • You are as diligent as possible and assiduous in your assigned shifts.
