Vacancy: Garden Grower

The Castle Garden is looking for an experienced Gardener and Horticulturalist to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to work in a productive and educational garden space and work with a friendly and motivated team. 

About the Castle Garden  

The Castle Garden is a long-term sustainability project that’s a creative use of the space around the Castle building for the benefit of its staff, customers and the local Wildlife. The Garden produces high quality fruit, vegetable and herbs to the Castle Café and the Community Food Service following sustainable growing practices and ecologically sensitive processes. The Garden has a team of volunteers who help to maintain it’s produce and are trained in it’s principles, methods and functions.  

The Person 

The successful individual will ideally have 4-5 years of experience in growing and gardening with excellent knowledge in creating and maintaining a biodiverse garden. In addition, you will also be a great communicator who has experience leading and educating a team or volunteers in maintaining a Garden space.  Ideally you will also have experience of maintenance and woodwork, making use of sustainable materials wherever possible.  

Candidates must have experience of: 

  • Good knowledge and practical experience of Horticulture and food growing, organic gardening 
  • Experience of working with volunteers (particularly food growing) 
  • Ensuring high in-house propagation of as many plants as possible
