We are looking for a Duty Manager to join our Castle team.

Hours: 16-24 hours per week (2 to 3 shifts) which will include evening and weekends
Salary: £17.49 per hour *

About The Castle Climbing Centre

The Castle offers a diverse and wide range of Climbing facilities to cater for all. Based in Stoke Newington, the Centre is a Grade II listed Victorian Water pumping station, with a Café, shop, outdoor boulders, and community gardens. A friendly and enthusiastic team, we are passionate about providing the highest quality facilities in a fun, motivated, and inclusive environment. Sustainability is an integral part of the Centre’s vision and values. It is integrated into every aspect of the business, especially within our Café, where we try to source a lot of our produce from the community gardens onsite.

The Castle Climbing Centre aims to always develop our team to learn other skills and there are always other opportunities within the centre if you are interested. 

The Role

Duty Managers are pivotal to the smooth running of the Castle. You will be responsible for the operations of the centre during opening hours and will be the designated First Aider during that time. Duty Managers are a reference point to all the day’s activities for both staff and customers; they ensure that safety procedures are followed; will provide a friendly, efficient service for our customers and support the staff in the centre working in their specialist roles. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Good customer service and communication skills including ensuring good practice
  • Ensuring the correct operation of the centre’s health & safety policies
  • Working collaboratively with the Duty Management and Instructing team, Shop, Reception, and Cafe to ensure the smooth operation of the centre
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the Castle Sustainability Policy
  • Administering first aid to staff and customers

Required

  • Minimum Climbing Wall Instructor Qualification – Assessed
  • Proven record of excellent customer service skills
  • Proven communication & team working skills
  • Good knowledge of standard IT packages (e.g. word, excel, outlook, etc.)
  • Knowledge of best practice in climbing
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good Communications skills – confident and articulate

Desirable 

  • Basic Maintenance Skills
  • PPE inspection qualification 
  • First Aid (training will be provided)
  • Strong IT and office word/excel skills

* Please note: this hourly rate is for fully trained DM hours. The successful candidate will start on our training rate whilst learning about the centre, which will include shadowing shifts where you will not have the full responsibility of a fully trained duty manager. Training rate for all duty managers is London Living Wage which at time of recruitment is £11.95 per hour.
