We are in the season of autumnal abundance, with harvests occurring all over London’s gardens, growing sites and city farms. Hedgerows are plentiful and trees are laden with sweet fruits ready for the picking. Yet in many gardens around the city a great deal of fruit falls to the ground every year simply to return to the earth rather than feeding people. At the same time as this natural supply is ready to drop, the UK is importing apples and pears from countries as diverse as France, New Zealand and the South Africa.

As autumn arrives to mark the end of our Indian summer, the Castle is becoming increasingly busier and lively. In the next few weeks you may see a lot of fresh faces and keen novices hanging off the walls. Every October universities from around London, such as UCL, will be bringing new climbers to the Castle to let them try climbing for the first time. We are delighted that they have chosen the Castle as a space for their new climbing club members to have a go and learn the ropes in a safe environment.

For over ten years The Castle has organised climbing holidays in Northern Spain with Climb Catalunya. Catalunya is graced with excellent weather and a wide variety of crags from adventurous multi-pitch, hard-core tufa-filled caves and friendly single-pitch venues all in the midst of stunning scenery.

Opportunities in British Climbing

Chief Executive

High Performance Sports is best known for operating The Castle, Europe’s leading climbing centre. The company has been expanding its facilities over the last three years and is now looking to consolidate its position as market leader with an experienced, professional management team. The current Managing Director is moving abroad and leaves the company in strong financial position with exciting prospects for future developments.

So, what did you do during the summer holidays? One young Castle Climber has already raised £26,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital climbing three alpine routes.

We are changing the way in which we admit novices for climbing.....

Currently, the form is ‘attached’ to the supervisor’s record and the novices are not a customer in their own right on our entry system. We wish to change this and ensure each novice that climbs here has their own record.
