A Short View from the Ground

The Castle Cafe, for the second year running, has won the Sustainable Food Award at the 2013-2014 Sustainable City Awards, announced on the 27th of March.  This is a great achievement, considering that we've come out above dedicated restaurants and cafes!  Our congratulations go to the Cafe, Kitchen and Garden teams for making this happen.

This season the Castle Garden are looking for two volunteer apprentices for our garden;
A herb apprentice (Mondays) and a Kitchen garden apprentice (Thursdays) to work with the Castle garden team and learn to manage a productive and fun food growing project that grows vegetables, fruit and herbs for a commercial kitchen and café.

The One Show's Alex Jones has been training at The Castle Climbing Centre for her 2014 Sport Relief challenge- climbing the infamous Moonlight Buttress in Zion National Park with Andy Kirkpatrick. When Alex came to The Castle six weeks ago she had never climbed before.

The Castle is looking for enthusiastic, flexible people to join our Duty Managing team.

Duty Managers have responsibility for the operation of the centre during opening hours and act as the designated First Aider when the centre is open. They provide a reference point for all the day’s activities for both staff and customers; they ensure that safety procedures are followed and they provide a friendly, efficient service for our customers while supporting the staff in the centre working in their specialist roles.

Looking forward to the next set? Want to know how much longer you can work on that project for?

Below is the provisional bouldering area setting schedule for 2014. Please note that the dates/setters may be changed.

Imagine climbing amongst all your friends, big tunes, great atmosphere, fun challenges, the latest and best climbing holds, and give-aways galore – this is Blokfest and it's coming to the Castle on Saturday 15th February.

Are you aiming to improve your climbing this year? We want to help you make the most of all the great new areas we're opening up and feel great about your climbing with the launch of our new coaching products coming soon in March 2014.

The Castle is launching its new N4 Mini Club to teach young children climbing skills in a fun and safe environment.  The club, for 5 to 8 year olds, will be run on Saturday mornings by an experienced, qualified instructor with small group ratios of no more than six children per instructor.  The sessions will use games to help children develop their coordination and balance and introduce them to climbing.  We know that rock climbing has many benefits for children including the development teamworking skills, increased self-confidence and trust, better motivation and improved levels of fitnes
