The Castle Squad offers specialist training programmes for elite young climbers competing in regional, national and international competitions. The Competition Squad trains twice a week at The Castle with their coaches, although they all climb a lot more independently. Since the Squad was launched in 2009 by 3x national champion Audrey Seguy, we have developed athletes who not only achieve great results in competitions but have grown to love the sport, the camaraderie and have built long-lasting friendships with many of the climbing community.
The pathway to the Squad begins with following the NICAS syllabus with the Castle Climbing Club and the Castle Academy. Participation in the Squad is by invitation only. The coaching team selects the elite athletes based on the criteria set out by the GB Team and the BMC for youth development and talent pathway. During the summer selection event (usually around mid-July), athletes from other teams willing to climb at the Castle can try and be considered for the Squad. The coaching team also takes into account the performance in national competitions such as Blokfest and the BMC Youth Climbing Series.
