Started in 2009, our Comp Squad has focused on developing the best young climbers at The Castle Climbing through a comprehensive training and competition programme. The Castle Squad is proud to be sponsored by Prana, Metolius and Evolv.
A climbing club for 15 to 17 years olds. The aim of the Castle Seniors Club is to help young people to gain skills enabling them to become confident, independent climbers and to eventually use the Centre unsupervised.
No prior climbing experience is required.
The sessions run for one and a half hours with strict ratio of six young people to one instructor.
Seniors Session Times
Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7.10pm to 8.40pm
The results of the BMC Youth Climbing Series 2016 demonstrate how well our Castle Academy youth team are learning from each other and pushing themselves during training. Our athletes work together as a team during competitions, supporting each other and cheering loudly and enthusiastically for everyone taking part.
The Technique Clinics are designed for people who climb regularly and are keen to improve, but it doesn’t matter if you are stuck at V0/4 or pushing V3/6c, you’ll still get plenty out of the clinics. If you are already climbing at V4/6c+ or above, you may want to consider 1 to 1 coaching.
The Movement One course is an introduction to climbing techniques and course is designed for climbers wishing to develop a solid skill base and will change the way you think about climbing.
The Castle ran its first Open Junior Bouldering Event on Saturday, 16th of May 2015 for young climbers aged 8 to 14. The event was held in the Loft with 4 categories competing on 10 blocs set specially for them. Many of the climbers were hoping for a place on the Castle's Climbing Academy next autumn- the first step towards a place on the elite Comp Squad. Castle Coaches and Junior Coaches were present offering advice and support to the young climbers.
