This season the Castle Garden are looking for two volunteer apprentices for our garden;
A herb apprentice (Mondays) and a Kitchen garden apprentice (Thursdays) to work with the Castle garden team and learn to manage a productive and fun food growing project that grows vegetables, fruit and herbs for a commercial kitchen and café.
Since September 2009, The Castle have been working to develop the one acre green space surrounding the building. This has been an exciting project with the vision to create a productive garden based on the principles of permaculture design. We grow fruit, vegetables and herbs for the Castle kitchen, café , plus make herb products for our shop.
We are looking for two enthusiastic people who is keen to learn about community food growing projects, growing food in a sustainable way, and who enjoy working outdoors and cooperating with other people & the Castle Climbing Centre. A great opportunity to learn and work around adventurous people!
The placements run from 28th April /1st May to week commencing 22nd September, one day a week – mainly Mondays for herb volunteer day, and Thursdays for fruit and veg. There will be a chance to also attend tutorials and training in urban food growing.
Closing date for applications is 5pm Friday 11th April.
Interviews held Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April.
