The One Show's Alex Jones has been training at The Castle Climbing Centre for her 2014 Sport Relief challenge- climbing the infamous Moonlight Buttress in Zion National Park with Andy Kirkpatrick. When Alex came to The Castle six weeks ago she had never climbed before. We've been teaching her basic movement and safety skills and the different systems for ascending fixed ropes on a big wall (which she'll be doing a lot of!) Though she's got very little experience climbing, she's been a quick learner and has a great positive attitude, which she'll need to cope with three days of big wall climbing. Starting from Monday the 17th of March her ascent will be featured on the BBC's One Show.
You can watch Alex learn about her challenge and train at The Castle on BBC's iPlayer (it's the first 10 minutes of the programme):
Alex is raising money to support the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. You can sponsor Alex on her Sport Relief Challenge page Alex Against The Rock.
Hooray for us!
