The start of a new season

If you want to know about the best young climbers in London then keep an eye out this year as the Castle Comp Squad sets out to take youth climbing to new heights.

Our climbers are passionate about climbing and dedicated to becoming the best. We want to send a message to others so that when they see our t-shirts in competitions, they know we mean business.

Our team of twelve climbers is split into two groups - in Group A we have Sam, Cameron, Zoe, Stan and Jo who are working towards membership of the British Team and the opportunity to take part in international level competitions. Group B – Yasmin, Eugenie, Alex, Mia and Kai who are training toward success in the national finals of The British Climbing Youth Series in Edinburgh in July and gaining a podium place in the upcoming Blokfest events. GB Team member Jim Pope is our inspirational squad captain and was recently ranked 24th in the World Youth Championships in Canada.
The first weekend in October marks the start of our competition season, with the British Lead Climbing Championships (BLCC) in Sheffield. On Sunday the 20th of October we will be competing in the first round of Blokfest at Mile End Climbing Wall. Our training will continue to increase in intensity, aiming to peak our performance in the BMC Youth Climbing Series (YCS) starting in January 2014. Without a doubt, everyone is psyched and working hard towards more podium places in the regional and national events.
About the author:
Grace Spence-Green won the British Youth Climbing Series last year for her category. This season she is the Junior Coach for the Squad. "I aim to help the young athletes of the Castle Competition Squad achieve their individual ambitions. I feel that with my experience I can give advice not only on technical climbing and route solving, but also about how to mentally prepare for competitions and, more generally, about considering climbing as a way of life".
