The Castle offers a range of indoor climbing and abseiling activities in a controlled environment close to central London. We run a variety of events, either for fun or as development training, designed for companies and organised groups.

Who are we?

The Castle is the foremost indoor climbing centre in the South East and receives more annual visits than any other climbing centre in the UK. Built inside a historic and magnificent former Victorian water pumping station, the centre is privately owned and managed by a team of dedicated professionals.

In addition to providing a teaching and training facility for climbers throughout the South East our team provides a service for the business community either using our facilities for fun or for more serious development training.

What do we do?

As you will see from a tour of our website, our facilities include an enormous range of climbing walls to suit all needs from the nervous beginner to the dedicated professional climber. We also have a dedicated abseil tower that offers a 30-metre descent either inside or outside (weather permitting), fully appointed changing rooms, an equipment shop and climber's cafe.

How to arrange an event or programme:

Social Climbing Events

Groups can try out a range of climbing and abseiling activities under the supervision of our qualified and very experienced instructors. We don't attempt to teach people the technical aspects of climbing on these events. We just make sure they get to have a go and enjoy themselves. Most activities involve two or more people so these events are very sociable and leave the group with plenty of exciting shared experiences to talk about for weeks to come.

Fund Raising Events

The Castle has run several Climathons and sponsored abseils for organisations trying to raise money through sponsorship of adventurous activities. Our indoor environment and accessibility ensure that events are not at the mercy of weather or travel arrangements. Our dedicated 30-metre abseil tower is particularly versatile because it can be used for both indoor and outdoor abseils depending on the weather.

Promotional Events

The centre is atmospheric, extensive and very unusual. Parts of it can be hired out during quiet periods to organisations wishing to incorporate our activities into promotional events or product launches. For more information, see Media and Special Events.

Team Building Programmes

The value in delivering team building and development courses through the media of exciting and challenging activities is well documented. At The Castle we have the advantages of accessibility and our controlled environment. Our highly experienced instructors are able to ensure that the activities are only as exciting as you want.

Most tasks that climbers perform in order to pursue their sport involve two or more people so participants are brought together in groups to share a learning experience. Through mutual support and encouragement, climbing is an ideal environment in which to discover each other's strengths and weaknesses and see the learning cycle in action. The activities are designed to be fun so the learning process is never arduous and other team development games can be incorporated so the experience doesn't become too technical or physical. Classroom based discussions and analysis can be incorporated or the process can be purely experiential depending what the group's aims are.

Management Training Programmes

These programmes are an extension of the Team Building Programmes. They operate on the same principals but set out to achieve specific aims with the groups and individuals involved. We usually operate these programmes with our experienced instructors working alongside specialist facilitators. We are happy to work with a company's own facilitators or bring in consultants we know and have worked with before.
